I've got a book recommendation. Taking the Long Way is a novel written by Lily R. Mason. My nickname for it is: Life. It follows Natalia Torres, starting from her meeting Bridget Reid and then chronicling their life together. It's about coming out, dealing with parents, college, career, etc. The author has been working on a sequel, Me and You and Daisies from Bridget's point of view, starting from ttlw's end. Taking the Long Way started off as a Glee fanfic, though it very quickly departed from canon, so MaYaD can be read, but currently only in the Glee continuity.
Diversity in YA, a blog that focuses on Young Adult novels featuring main characters of color or LGBT charactes is hosting a summer contest. The rules are pretty simple. Read a book that fits the criteria and blog about it in at least 500 words. They've got a list of suggested reading up if anyone needs a little help choosing.
So at work earlier I had to make a new label for the LGBT section (I work at a used bookstore btw). It used to be labelled GLBT and then somewhere along the way the sign got lost. Anyway, the boss of the store I work for decided that it should be retitled 'Alternative Gender Studies'.
What the heck. Bizarre choice. I have never heard that term used for an queer book section.

I personally recommend Ash by Malinda Lo, The Dragoneye series by Alison Goodman, and anything by Julie Anne Peters out of their list.
Have fun. ^^
